D.A.N.A. is a dual-program agency for Alleghany County of North Carolina that serves victims of both domestic abuse & sexual assaults.  We are a program of the Alleghany Partnership for Children which is a non-profit 501(C)3. The DANA program was created in October of 1999.  Our goal is to help support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and advocate DV/SA prevention through community education.  We provide both local and federal victims with services that include, but are not limited to, the following...

Description of Services: 
Division of Medical Assistance  (DMA) -- The Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) provides training, technical assistance, and consultation to the local DSS staff who work in the Medicaid and Health Choice programs. 
The Division of Child Development and Early Education    (DCDEE) -- The Division of Child Development and Early Education provides training, technical assistance, and consultation for staff who work with subsidized child care programs.
The Division of Social Services  (DSS) -- The Division of Social Services (DSS) provides training, technical assistance, and consultation to the local staff who work in programs for families and children including Child Welfare, Family Support, Work First, Child Support, and Food and Nutrition Services. 
Division of Health Service Regulation    (DHSR) -- The Division of Health Service Regulation provides training, technical assistance, and consultation for staff who are involved in the supervision and monitoring of group care facilities. Field staff are available to local counties. 
Division of Aging and Adult Services  (DAAS) -- The Division of Aging and Adult Services provides training, technical assistance, and consultation to local staff who work in programs for adults including Adult Protective Services, Special Assistance, Adult Day Care and In Home services.

Description of Services: 
 
The Alleghany County Ministerium is an ecumenical organization of representatives from area churches in Alleghany County and Sparta. Some of their services include a food closet, a building ministry for wheel chair ramps, roofing and repairs and a relief fund.

Food Closet:
The Solid Rock Food Closet is involved in several programs focused on nutrition and food distribution.  "The Deer Hunters   
Program" provides deer meat during hunting season.  Our "Special Needs Program" focuses on clients such as diabetics and babies.  The "Backpack Program" and   are programs for weekend snacks that coordinate with the local elementary schools. During the summer months, our "Summer Lunch Program" serves children in need during the month of July.  Gleaning with the "Society of St Andrews" provides summer produce picked by our volunteers.

Qualifications:
We follow the Emergency Food Assistance Program Financial Guidelines, (TEFAP, a federal nutrition program)

Relief Fund:
Solid Rock Emergency Fund Ministry reaches out to those who have fallen upon heard times and have special financial needs.  Such needs may include (but not limited to) power bills, fuel assistance, prescriptions, etc.  At this time individuals can only receive assistance once a year from date of assistance,

Emergency Assistance:
This program is designed to assist low-income families, elderly and dislocated workers living below the current federal poverty guidelines in emergency situations by providing emergency financial assistance.
Services include...
  • Rental assistance to avoid eviction
  • Utility assistance to avoid disconnection 
  • Heating fuel in the winter months
  • Crisis food assistance
-  The Agency also provides prescription assistance through the United Way of Wilkes County. Clients covered by Medicaid are not eligible for prescription assistance.
-  The community-wide Needs Assessment helps community services workers determine a family’s needs, goals, and eligibility for services.
-  Eligibility for all programs is based upon the current US Health and Human Services Division of Social Services,  Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program:
The Family Self-Sufficiency project is a comprehensive program that supports individuals and families to alleviate barriers, utilize available resources, and to promote economic independence.  Clients must have the desire to succeed, be willing and able to work, and commit to program guidelines.
