Box 157 Creston, NC 28615 Email: asheoutreach@gmail.com Description of Services: Our efforts to feed families and eliminate food insecurity in Ashe County started in 2005 and initially focused on Middle grades children. Since then, we have developed several specialized and focused programs. Over 25,000 lbs. of food is administered every month through 5 programs including: Mobile Meals, Riverview food pantry, and weekly community meals which are every Saturday, from 11-12:30, and they hold an Uptown Community Meal at the the Early Learning Center (the old West Jefferson Community Center cafeteria). Another meal is served every Thursday starting at 10am at the Riverview Community Center in Creston. There is also the School Backpack program: backpacks go home with students on Friday and during the summer to ensure that they have food while they are away from school. The program Outgrow Hunger teaches about the ability to provide food by growing a garden at residences, while also providing classes for gardening skills, cooking, and preserving. Ashe outreach ministries' goal is that those who are in hunger, especially each child, has food to eat and knows that the same holds true for tomorrow.
