Description of Services:
A  public managed care organization that oversees Medicaid, state and local funding and offers a comprehensive health plan for individuals and families in need of mental health, substance use or intellectual /developmental disability services.

What is the Registry of Unmet Needs?
The Registry of Unmet Needs (RUN) is a registry, or waiting list, for individuals who are in need of NC Innovations Waiver and/or other intellectual and/or developmental disability services and funding. Each Local Management Entity/Managed Care Organization (such as Vaya Health) maintains its own Registry of Unmet Needs.
NC Innovations Waiver funding is limited. Vaya maintains the Registry to help identify individuals that could receive NC Innovations Waiver services if additional funding is available. Individuals are guided to other resources while they are waiting for waiver funding.

Why Is it Important to Get on the Registry of Unmet Needs?
The Medicaid Innovations Waiver help Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) live a more independent lifestyle. One of the first actions to take when you obtain a diagnosis is to apply for an Innovations Waiver. This cannot be stressed enough: there is a waitlist for the Waiver, which varies by county. Even if you think you may not want or need services for your child, please apply ASAP; you can always reject the Waiver when it is offered.   Please note that while Medicaid funds the Waiver,  it is not necessary to have Medicaid when you apply for an Innovations Waiver.

How Can I Get More Information or Apply?
For more information on the RUN, please contact the 24/7 Access to Care Line at 1-800-849-6127. (Our Access to Care staff do answer crisis calls, but they’re also available any time to answer general questions about Vaya/local services, including the RUN process).

Dig In Community Garden

Address:   PO Box 1095  Burnsville, NC 28714
Email:   farmer@diginyancey.org

Description of Services:
Dig In! Is a Garden that Gives – all of the food grown in our family-style gardens and farms is shared with anyone in the community who needs fresh produce. Volunteers tend the gardens with a Farm Manager and seasonal interns who learn to grow food with us. In 2019, we cultivated 1.5 acres of organic vegetables, flowers, and seeds. We grow crops that are nutrient rich, culturally appreciated by diverse people in our community, and regionally adapted to our mountain climate. We use sustainable and regenerative agricultural techniques so that generations to come have the natural resources to grow food in the places we steward. By growing food
, we offer a local response to hunger that is reliable and of the highest quality, while building resources for our community to be food secure for years to come.  We grow a garden, have pop up farmers markets, work with community food programs, and local emergency food pantries.

Harvest Table
Phone:   (828) 536-0414
Address:   PO Box 1095   Burnsville, NC 28714
Email:   farmer@diginyancey.org

Description of Services:
An Addition to Dig In! Community Gardens, Harvest Table partners with local agencies to host “harvest tables” in four different neighborhoods. There is a long-standing tradition in Yancey County to share food, recipes, and tips with neighbors. Harvest tables keep this tradition alive by creating common spaces for participants to share, swap, and try fresh produce. On designated days, Dig In! sets up tables and tents in a high traffic area, like the health department or community college campus parking lot, and hosts a harvest table. Dig In! distributes extra produce from their garden and prepares a dish featuring harvested veggies for visitors to sample.   Any guests can bring extra produce they have grown, preserved, or cooked to share with others. This creates a safe, open place to experience new foods, cultures, and cooking techniques with people one might not have had the chance to meet. Harvest tables are meant to build community and let people share resources. They are not a farmer’s market replacement, but could be a great addition to your local curb market. Nothing brings people together like food, and a harvest table could be a great one-time event or a brand new long-lasting program for your organization to adopt.
