Description of Services: ABLE is a non-profit organization that coordinates activities/events for families who have children with special needs, including mental and physical disabilities.  The main focus is adaptive baseball in the Spring; however, other monthly activities are offered throughout the year including adaptive bowling and various holiday parties.

Fees/ Payment Type Accepted: Adaptive baseball has a nominal fee.  All other events are typically free.  Call for more information.

Description of Services: 4-H offers programs to North Carolina’s young people in their communities; 4-H programs include clubs, special interest programs, summer camps, school enrichment and after school child care.

Fees/ Payment Type Accepted: 4-H has no membership registration fee. There may be minimal costs for project manuals and some 4-H activities or events. Some clubs have dues to help defray the costs of project material and refreshments.

High Country Caregiver Foundation

Description of Services: The High Country Caregiver Foundation provides different services to caregivers throughout the High Country. Programs include Reach Out, an evidence-based caregiver support system designed to promote health and well-being of adults caring for persons with dementia; RAPP sessions provide a warm atmosphere for any relative or caregiver who has taken on the responsibility of raising a minor child. Other services include group respite, support groups and education/information of resources.

Description of Services: Blue Ridge First in Families is a community-based program. They serve individuals with developmental disabilities and/or traumatic brain injuries.

Eligibility: Services are referral based. Families must complete an application and have an annual income of less than $65,000 a year after taxes and they only offer assistance one time per year.
