Adaptive Baseball for the Exceptional (ABLE) Recreation

Description of Services: ABLE is a non-profit organization that coordinates activities/events for families who have children with special needs, including mental and physical disabilities. The main focus is adaptive baseball in the Spring; however, other monthly activities are offered throughout the year including adaptive bowling and various holiday parties.

Fees/ Payment Type Accepted: Adaptive baseball has a nominal fee. All other events are typically free. Call for more information.

Crouse Park

Description of Services: The park has a paved walking trail, basketball court, volleyball court, playground equipment for children, and restroom facilities, as well as a large outdoor stage (with a dance area) for public music events.
Picnic shelters are available. One large covered shelter with a charcoal grill may be reserved for special occasions. The house is furnished, with kitchen facilities, and may be rented for special occasions, meetings, etc. for a nominal fee. To reserve the shelter or the house, you may call (336) 372-4257.
Events at Crouse Park each Monday night, the Crouse House hosts the Crouse House Pickers, a group of local musicians who welcome folks to visit and listen or join in the music making.
In June, the Crouse Park stage becomes the location of the Backwoods Beat Music festival, a music and songwriters event.
The Alleghany Farmers Market is held each Saturday from summer to fall at Crouse Park. The market features cooking events and children’s activities. For a schedule visit their facebook page.
Each Halloween, Crouse Park is also host to Trunk-or-Treat. Local merchants and civic groups decorate trunks full of treats for trick-or-treaters. A costume contest is also part of this event.
